Man, 46, arrested after 'exposing himself in pub' as officers crack down on violence against women

A 46-year-old man has been arrested after reportedly exposing himself in a Greater Manchester pub. Officers detained the man in Bolton town centre on suspicion of outraging public decency.

It was one of a string of arrests made by Greater Manchester Police in recent days as part of Operation Lioness, which is targeting violence against women and girls in the region's night-time economy. As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Sunday, two men aged 19 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following separate incidents at city centre nightclubs, at Withy Grove and Princess Street.

Both incidents were reported in the early hours of Sunday (July 30) and in both cases, club bouncers immediately intervened before police made the arrests. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and stalking, after a woman was reported to have been slapped at a bar on Fairbottom Street, Oldham, in the early hours of Sunday.

Officers on patrol as part of the operation also intervened in a pub fight that broke out in Failsworth, which police are investigating as affray, and carried out two positive stop searches for drugs in Bolton town centre. Police also made an arrest in Wigan in connection with a domestic abuse related incident.

All suspects have since been bailed or released under investigation as enquiries continue. "The additional hotspot patrols descending on busy town centres each weekend have already started to have an impact, with several arrests made this weekend and positive interventions done to protect vulnerable people from potentially dangerous situations," a spokesperson for GMP said.
