Man, 20, released on bail after woman raped in park by attacker 'known to her'
A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in a park in Stockport has been released on bail.
Police taped off all entrances to Thornfield Park in Heaton Mersey yesterday (Thursday) after the incident was reported at around 5.30am. A man was detained on suspicion of rape and taken into police custody as the woman was supported by specialist officers.
In an update issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the suspect has now been interviewed and released on bail. Detectives believe the attacker and victim are 'known to each other'.

They also believe that the incident was isolated. Investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "A 20-year-old male was arrested yesterday morning, has been interviewed and now released on bail. We believe the attacker and the victim are known to each other and this was an isolated incident.
"Investigations are ongoing and specialist officers are continuing to support the female. If anyone still has any concerns or information, please speak to our officers in the area or call 101 quoting incident 481 of the 25/08/22."
People living near Thornfield Park spoke of their shock and sadness as they woke to find the park taped off yesterday. One nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's really shocking isn't it. I think it's going on all over the country isn't it.
"But this if the first time I've heard of something like this happening around here. It's very worrying."
