Makhtar Gueye makes Burnley transfer admission and the Clarets stance on striker amid links

Makhtar Gueye has spoken of his admiration for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as he plots his next career path.

The striker was linked with a move to the Clarets earlier in the summer and as Lancs Live reported at the time, Burnley had not made contact with his club Oostende over a potential deal. The 24-year-old is ready to leave Belgium and has his eyes on playing at the highest level possible but admits he could be swayed by Kompany should Burnley come calling.

“I know I was mentioned there, but we'll see if that becomes concrete. Of course I would like to work with an ex-top player like Kompany," said the striker to Het Nieuwsblad.

“Waiting for a transfer is like waiting at the hairdresser: in the end it is everyone's turn. You have to be patient.

I do dream of a top competition, but I still have a contract with Oostende until 2024. I saw Fashion Sakala move from KVO to Rangers, I also want to take a course like that."

While Gueye seemingly remains open to a Burnley move and the Clarets continue to seek additions - particularly up front - ahead of the new Championship season, understands the prospects of any deal materialising is slim at this stage.

A number of European sides are interested in the frontman and the absence of top flight football would also hinder Burnley should they make a move while the Clarets could also be priced out of a deal as Oostende are under no pressure to sell.

Gueye will be well known to new Turf boss Vincent Kompany having spent the past two seasons at Oostende in Belgium. He scored 12 goals in 21 games last term.
