Major supermarket to slash price of Christmas veg to 15p

A major supermarket has confirmed it will be slashing the price of bags of Christmas vegetables to just 15p.

Lidl is the latest retailer to announce that it will be making major reductions on festive dinner items ahead of the big day.

The items that will be available for 15p include British parsnips (500g), British carrots (1kg), British brussel sprouts (500g), echalion shallots (300g), British swede (each) and white potatoes (2kg).

Making the announcement, Lidl said: "Lidl prices are always market leading, even when others reduce theirs. But Lidl works on long-term agreements with producers and growers, ensuring that promotional prices do not affect the price paid to the farmer."

The Christmas vegetables offer will be in stores nationwide from December 19 to 24, while stocks last.

Lidl is the latest major supermarket to announce they will be dropping the prices of vegetables ahead of Christmas. Last week Aldi announced the return of their 'super six' deal that sees bags of white potatoes, carrots, parsnips, brussels sprouts and broccoli and red and white cabbages reduced to 15p until Christmas Eve.

Days earlier, Sainsbury's also announced it was slashing certain veg to the same price until Christmas Eve. For this deal, customers need a Nectar Card. Without one, prices can range from 62p all the way up to £1.35.
