Major road to the Peak District closed and traffic at standstill after crash

Snake Pass - one of the main roads through the Peak District which connects Manchester to Sheffield - has been closed this afternoon after a crash.

According to traffic monitoring services, the A57 has been closed between Shirebrook Drive near the Royal Oak Inn in Glossop to the Ladybower Reservoir (A6013).

The traffic alert service Inrix says: “A57 in both directions closed, stationary traffic due to accident from Shirebrook Drive (Glossop) to A6013 (Ladybower Reservoir, Ladybower).”

A 14 mile stretch of the road was closed as of 4pm today (June 2) and police have urged people to avoid the area.

A post on X published by High Peak Police just before 3.30pm said: “The A57, Snake Pass is currently closed until further notice due to RTC.

## Please avoid the area ##.”
