Major Metrolink warning issued as travel disruption to hit network for three weeks

Tram passengers are being warned to expect disruption as major engineering works take place. Metrolink services in the city centre are set to be hit by works taking place on Mosley Street - between St Peter's Square, Market Street and Piccadilly Gardens.

Work begins on Tuesday (August 27) and will last for three weeks until September 17. Unlike during the recent works near Shudehill, all city centre tram stops will remain open.

But with the track on Mosley Street to be closed, several tram services will see their usual routes changed, while some passengers may need to change trams during their journey. A Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) spokesperson said: "This closure is part of our programme of planned engineering works and is for essential track renewals on Mosley Street and at Piccadilly Gardens."

Trams on the line between Altrincham and Bury will run via Exchange Square during the works - with passengers for Piccadilly required to change at Victoria. Ashton line trams will run to Crumpsall, via Piccadilly and Victoria, instead of Eccles.

Meanwhile, services on the Eccles and Manchester Airport lines will terminate at Deansgate-Castlefield. Trams on the Etihad Campus line will run to Victoria, rather than MediaCity, while Trafford Park services will terminate at Cornbrook.

Passengers will be able to change for another service into the city centre, TfGM says. A tram replacement bus will also run every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday, and every 15 minutes on Sundays. Further details are available on TfGM's website.
