Major Manchester hospitals, including MRI, still struck by phone system issues

Phone systems across Manchester hospitals have been hit by ‘issues’ and are continuing to experience problems.

A number of hospitals in Manchester were plagued with technical errors with their telephone lines yesterday (September 10). Today, the issues have continued to impact multiple sites, including the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the problems are particularly affecting voicemail systems, and patients are still thought to be able to call the hospitals. The M.E.N. also understands that the problems are expected to be resolved within the next day as the trust running the hospitals has said the issue is currently being addressed, apologising for the inconvenience caused.

Phone systems have also been affected at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital and facilities on the Oxford Road campus. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, which operates the hospital, has been approached for further details by the Manchester Evening News, but the exact nature of the problem has not been confirmed.

A statement on the trust’s website reads: “Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and our facilities on Oxford Road Campus are currently experiencing issues with their phone systems.

“This may mean that it may take longer than usual to be connected to the team you are calling. Voicemail recorders are currently not working, so please do not leave a message, but call back.
