Major M6 five-vehicle pile up causes 7 MILES of congestion and huge delays

A major pile up involving five vehicles is causing huge delays on the M6 this evening. Emergency services are at the scene on the southbound carriageway between J19 for Knutsford and J18 for Holmes Chapel.

National Highways said the crash, that involved five vehicles, has resulted in delays of over an hour and almost seven miles of congestion this evening.

Emergency services remain at the scene, with two lanes still currently closed. Cheshire Constabulary have been approached for further details.

According to the latest update from live traffic service Inrix, the delays have now cleared.

The update read: "Long delays cleared and traffic easing, earlier accident on M6 Southbound from J19 (Knutsford) to J18 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel)."

Lanes have now reopened following the earlier collision, National Highways said.

Congestion and delays remain in the area.

National Highways said there are queues of six miles remaining this evening towards the M56.

Delays of around 50 minute delays remain on the approach.

There are still large delays this evening on the M6.

Recovery for the vehicles involved is underway.

Motorway police are at the scene of the huge pile up on the M6.
