Main road shut as woman taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries - live
Emergency services are at the scene of an accident involving three vehicles that has shut a main road in Pontypool in both directions. Police have said a 79-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
It had originally been reported as a breakdown, but Gwent Police have confirmed there has been an accident between the A4042 MacDonald's roundabout and Lower New Inn.
A statement from the force said they were called to reports of an accident at around 11.50am on Monday 7 August.
A spokesman said: "Officers attended, along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
"The collision involved three cars: a Peugeot, a Ford and a Mercedes. The passenger of the Mercedes, a 79-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries."
At 2pm they said the incident is "ongoing".
Traffic monitoring system Inrix has reported: "The A4042 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident from A4051 (Rechem Roundabout) to A472 (Pontypool Roundabout)."
