Maidstone United defender Temi Eweka discusses their National League South title hopes

Maidstone defender Temi Eweka believes there’s still all to play for in the National League South title race.

The Stones have fallen nine points behind leaders Dorking, in seventh place, after a run of two wins in eight games.

But they have a game in hand on Marc White’s side and with 13 matches remaining, things can change.

Maidstone went 18 unbeaten before their dip in form and know they are capable of going on another run.

The Stones host Bath this Saturday (3pm) and travel to promotion rivals Eastbourne on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“Since our unbeaten run ended at Chesham, we’ve been trying to get back on the train with consistency,” said Eweka.

“It hasn’t been the best but these things happen. It’s going to be an absolute rollercoaster end to the season, so stick with us.

“We’re trying to put things right where we can.

“The title’s still on. It’s never done until it’s mathematically done, and we’re going to keep believing.

“We’ve just got to find it within ourselves to get back on that run and keep believing in each other.

“I think when you go on such a long unbeaten run and then you lose, a bit of belief is lost and a bit of confidence is lost.

“But we’ve just got to get around each other and get back on that train.

“There are still a good number of games to go.

“I don’t even think it’s the run-in yet.

“It’s always the last seven or eight games when it’s crunch time.

“I feel like the table is still going to be up and down.

“Looking at it now, it’s not going to be like this at the end of the season, I guarantee you.

“It’s about who can hold their nerve for the longest and get that consistent run going. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
