Maidstone United condemn behaviour of “so-called fans” who caused trouble attending Welling match on Good Friday and vow to ban those responsible
Maidstone United have condemned the actions of a “handful of so-called fans” who caused trouble attending their Good Friday game at Welling.
There were issues both on public transport and at the ground, with those responsible acting in a “totally inappropriate way, causing damage and distress”, a Stones statement said.
“The club fully condemns this behaviour which damages our good name and we will not tolerate it,” added Maidstone, who have vowed to ban anyone found to be involved.
“The people responsible are not welcome as Stones fans.
“To make matters worse, they uploaded the incidents on to social media to get a few likes.
“Thanks for the footage though, it will greatly help the police investigation. Likewise, anyone identified from that footage will receive a ban from our stadium.
“So whether you turn up on Easter Monday (against Tonbridge) or leave it till the new season, hoping it’ll all be forgotten by August, rest assured it won’t be.
“We will not allow the actions of a few to spoil it for the many.
“We apologise to Welling United for such unacceptable behaviour, which many of our own loyal supporters have also roundly condemned.”
Maidstone returned to the National League South play-off places thanks to goals from Aaron Blair, Temi Eweka, Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong and Ben Brookes (penalty) in a 4-0 victory.
The result confirmed Welling’s relegation to the Isthmian Premier.
