Maidstone United boss Craig Fagan appoints former Dorking Wanderers head coach Rob Tuvey as his new assistant manager

Maidstone United boss Craig Fagan has found his ideal assistant manager.

Rob Tuvey is the new No.2 at the Gallagher Stadium after leaving his role as head coach at National League South rivals Dorking Wanderers.

Tuvey ticks every box for Fagan, who conducted a thorough search to ensure he got the right man for a crucial role.

“I’m very happy to get Rob,” said Fagan, who spent three years as Maidstone assistant manager under George Elokobi before landing the top job.

“He’s someone I’ve known since I was doing the under-18s at Southend. We coached against each other.

“He’s very good at building a rapport with the players, he’s a good coach, a good person, who wants to improve people.

“I said I didn’t want someone coming in as a No.2 that’s scared to do his work, and you’d be surprised at some people that run away from work.

“He’s not one of those. He wants to get his hands dirty, he wants to muck in as much as he can.

“Our budget’s not vast so we don’t have loads of coaching staff, but I know Rob will give his all.

“He’s on the phone and messaging, wanting to do certain things and I love all that, wanting to change certain things and wanting to have his input.

“That’s the kind of person I was to George, so I wanted that person in and around me, to push me, to push the players. He’s an excellent coach.

“I keep mentioning about attacking play and being exciting and hopefully we can bring that this season with the both of us.”

Tuvey, who has worked in the Football League with AFC Wimbledon, brings the added bonus of knowing National League South from his time at Dorking.

He was head coach under manager-owner Marc White as Wanderers reached the play-off semi-finals last season.
