Maidstone United 1 Tonbridge Angels 1 match report: George Elokobi’s side all but guaranteed National League South play-off place despite Angels comeback

Maidstone are virtually assured of a National League South play-off place despite being held by Tonbridge in the early-kick-off on Easter Monday.

The Stones are three points clear of Weston going into the final day after the Seagulls lost 2-0 to title-chasing Truro in their 3pm match.

But with a significantly better goal difference - +32 compared to their rivals’ + 16 - George Elokobi’s men are all but guaranteed a top-seven finish.

A point at Farnborough on Saturday will make absolutely sure.

Aaron Blair gave Maidstone the lead with his 20th goal of the season in front of a bumper crowd of 3,670 at the Gallagher Stadium.

But Angels defender Ethan Sutcliffe scored a second-half equaliser for the visitors as the 1pm kick-off ended level.

Maidstone moved back into the play-off places with their 4-0 Good Friday win at Welling while Angels arrived in 15th place and looking for their first points under caretaker manager Scott Wagstaff.

A medical incident in the home end in just the third minute led to a lengthy delay.

Thankfully, all seemed to be well as the supporter was wheeled across the pitch to the medical room after assistance from both clubs’ physios.

When the action resumed, Maidstone were well on top as they set about taking another step towards a play-off place.

They got after the visitors but the Angels defence held firm, including a block from Jamie Fielding to deny George Fowler.

United’s pressure paid off with a 24th-minute opener.
