Maguire just one off the lead after brilliant finish

Leona Maguire finished her opening round like a train to surge up the leaderboard at the ISPS Handa World Invitational into a tie for second, just one shot off the leader.

The Cavan woman had three bogeys, three birdies and an eagle (on the par-five third) in a rollercoaster front nine at Galgorm Castle in Co Antrim.

She started her back nine slowly, parring 10 and 11 before bogeying 12, but Maguire then took off. She birdied 13 and picked up shots on 16, 17 and 18 to sign off with a five-under 68 and rocket up to second.

Georgia Hall, Emily Kristine Pedersen and Lauren Coughlin are also ion five-under, on off the American Amanda Doherty.
