Magpies transfer news: Newcastle could soon be 'knocking' to sign Thomas Muller

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that Newcastle could make a sensational move to sign forward Thomas Muller this summer.

The Germany international has less than 18 months remaining on his contract and was linked with a shock switch to St James’ Park in January.

According to Sport BILD journalist Christian Falk, Newcastle were interested in an ambitious move for the 32-year-old last month, although nothing materialised, and he remained at the Allianz Arena.

Muller has become a legendary figure for Bayern, scoring 224 goals and laying on an incredible 238 assists since breaking into the first-team; winning ten Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues, amongst a host of other domestic titles to go with his 2014 World Cup winners medal.

He has spent more than 10 years playing in Germany and has never played outside his home country, meaning a Premier League move could appeal to him.

Back in 2019, he wanted to leave Bayern following his lack of minutes under Niko Kovac. But Muller managed to win his place back in the side and would play a key part in their Champions League success later that season, scoring twice against Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Muller hasn’t looked back since then and is enjoying another outstanding campaign, scoring ten goals, and laying on another 20 for his teammates, to put Munich on course to win yet another German title.

But Jones believes that he might consider his options at the end of the season, which could open the door for Newcastle to make him their first big-name signing.
