Magpies latest news: Kieran Trippier's foot injury is a 'big blow' for Newcastle
Transfer insider Dean Jones has described Kieran Trippier’s injury as a “big blow” for Newcastle.
Kieran has enjoyed a fine start to life in the North East but suffered a serious foot injury against Aston Villa on Sunday and is set for a long spell on the sidelines.
Having scored his second free-kick in the space of six days to earn the Magpies three more points in their fight against survival, it looked like being another perfect weekend for the right-back.
Trippier had been a doubt for the game against Villa following an issue in the latter stages of the win over Everton last week but was deemed fit enough to start the game.
But the 31-year-old’s luck ran out early in the second half when he hobbled off after injuring his foot.
Less than 24 hours after the injury, Newcastle officially confirmed that having undergone an X-ray after the game, the results have shown that Trippier has fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot and will now spend a period on the treatment table.
Newcastle’s outstanding form has coincided with Trippier’s January arrival from Atletico Madrid, with Eddie Howe’s men picking up 10 points from four games with the England international in the side.
Those set of results have seen the Toon Army climb out of the relegation-zone for the first time since October and open up a four-point gap on 18th-place Norwich.
Newcastle have only tasted victory once without Trippier in the side this season, and Jones didn’t underplay how big of a miss he’ll be for the Magpies.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “This is an impact injury, it’s a big blow given the impact he’s already had in the team.”
