'Made contact' - Man Utd now plotting to sign 114-goal star; they've spoken to his agents

Manchester United and several other clubs have made contact with Juventus star Paulo Dybala over a move, according to journalist James Olley.

The 28-year-old has been one of Juve’s standout players in recent years, catching the eye with his creativity and goalscoring brilliance in the final third.

Dybala has an impressive record of 114 goals and 48 assists in 288 appearances for the Serie A giants, with Lionel Messi even picking him out as his successor for Argentina in the past.

The attacker’s current Juve deal expires at the end of this season, at which point he is expected to look for a fresh challenge.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, ESPN‘s Olley claimed that United and three other Premier League clubs are chasing Dybala’s signature ahead of a summer move:

“Arsenal, Tottenham, Man Utd & Newcastle have made contact with Paulo Dybala’s representatives over a summer move. Nothing at an advanced stage, just exploring the idea – player assessing his options (also interest from clubs in Italy and Spain).”

United have made the error of signing too many players on reputation rather than effectiveness during the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane big names who arguably arrived past their prime, to name just a few.

In terms of Dybala, the signing should only happen if incoming manager Erik ten Hag feels he is the right man for his system and not just because he is a household name.

He turns 29 later this year, so he isn’t getting any younger, but he is still at an age where he could come in a provide some of the magic has been missing in the attacking third this season IF he is Ten Hag’s choice.
