M60 LIVE traffic updates: Huge delays after road sweeper overturns with motorway closed

The M60 has been closed this evening after a road sweeper overturned. The clockwise carriageway is currently blocked off between junctions four and five with emergency services on the scene.

Pictures taken from the scene of the incident show the large yellow sweeper on its side in the middle of the carriageway. Traffic has been stopped temporarily.

The latest update from live traffic service Inrix read: "M60 clockwise blocked, delays due to overturned road sweeper from J4 M56 to J5 A5103 (Princess Parkway)."

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more details.

Trapped traffic has been released but large delays remain.

The latest update on Inrix says: "M60 clockwise closed, long delays due to overturned road sweeper from J4 M56 to J5 A5103 (Princess Parkway). Congestion to J27 (Portwood Roundabout)."

National Highways have shared new images of the collision this evening, with delays growing to 45 minutes.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:

At around 5.15pm on Wednesday 3 April, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60 clockwise between junctions 3 and 4.

Two fire engines from Withington and Stockport stations, as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton, quickly attended the incident. The collision involved a lorry which had overturned, blocking the motorway.

Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing the scene over to National Highways and Greater Manchester Police.

GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 40 minutes.”
