M6 crash: Ten-mile queues after vehicle overturns
Drivers were facing huge queues on the M6 in Cheshire after a vehicle overturned on the road.
National Highways said motorists were facing 10-mile queues on the southbound carriageway this afternoon (February 20), taking 90 minutes to clear.
It followed a collision between junctions 18 at Middlewich and 17 at Sandbach this morning. Two lanes of traffic were closed, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.
All traffic was temporarily stopped earlier. A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 11.15am on Thursday, February 20, police were called to reports of a collision on M6 southbound between junction 17 and 18.
"The collision involved one vehicle which had flipped onto its roof. Traffic was held while recovery was completed and the scene was clear by 1.25pm."
An update from National Highways on X said: "Scene clear and all lanes open on the M6 southbound between J18 #HolmesChapel and J17 #Sandbach.
"Delays are in excess of 90 minutes and approx. 10 miles, though this will significantly reduce soon. Thank you for your patience." The incident has now cleared.
