M4 accident and 'congestion warnings' issued as traffic builds - live updates

A congestion warning has been issued for part of the M4 between Cardiff and Newport. Friday afternoons are normally busy on the south Wales motorway but the congestion warning comes earlier than normal as people make the most of the last weekend of the half term holiday and the good weather.

There was also an accident around 3pm on the westbound carriageway. One lane is closed at junction 24, The Coldra, near Newport.

Traffic Wales is warning of "congestion" heading eastbound between junction 29 at Cardiff and junction 26 Malpas Road, which is just before the Brynglas tunnels. It is also reported to be slow eastbound near Swansea at junction 41 Baglan.

They have also issued a congestion warning for westbound traffic between junction 38 Margam and junction 42 Earlswood.
