Luus hopes experienced batting line-up can contribute: 'They're not far away'

Proteas skipper Sune Luus says South Africa won't be changing too much despite their close finishes at the ongoing Women's Cricket World Cup.

South Africa remain unbeaten in the eight-team tournament after their fourth consecutive final over win in New Zealand.

On Thursday in Hamilton, New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine top-scored with 93 off 101 balls but the hosts soon faltered under Ayabonga Khaka (3/31) and Shabnim Ismail (3/27).

Needing 229 runs to win, the Proteas lost opener Lizelle Lee for 17 and Tazmin Brits (18) before an 88-run partnership between Laura Wolvaardt (67) and Luus (51).

A mini-collapse followed as Wolvaardt, Luus and Mignon du Preez (1), who played her 150th ODI cap for South Africa.

Vice-captain Chloe Tryon fell for 14 as all-rounder Marizanne Kapp steered the Proteas over the line as they clinched a two-wicket victory against the White Ferns.

"The way we've been going, we can always do better and some can contribute a bit more. I think with Tazmin, she's showed us what she can do against England so we were fully backing her this game," said Luus.

"With Mignon, she's a class player and we know it'll only take one knock to get back in the game. She played her 150th game and you can just imagine the experience she brings.

"So they're not far away from big scores and contributing to the team in the way we want. Hopefully, against Australia, they can lift us and play through."

The Proteas boast a combined experience of 1 042 matches, the highest for any team in this Women's World Cup edition.

Luus believes that their experience line-up will deliver as they face Australia (Tuesday, 22 March), West Indies (Thursday, 24 March) and India
