Luss boxer Hannah Rankin vows "I'll be back" after world title defeat

Hannah Rankin has vowed to be back after losing her IBO and WBA super welterweight belts to Terri Harper after a bruising encounter on Friday night.

The 32-year-old from Luss lost her belts to the English challenger, who had moved up three weight divisions for the fight by unanimous decision – with judges scoring the bout 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93 in Harper’s favour.

Hannah suffered a large cut just above her eyebrow in the second round after being caught by a fierce right-hand jab after a cagey first round.

It looked to come as a blow to the former Hermitage Academy pupil, who didn’t start showing her true ability until the fifth round – however by that stage Harper was able to manage the fight.

Despite throwing everything she had at her opponent in the final rounds, Harper stood firm to claim the belts Hannah had earned last November with victory against Maria Lindberg. Following the fight, Hannah was taken to hospital for precautionary checks, but took to Twitter to reassure her fans that she was fine.

Hannah posted: “For all those asking, my CT scan is clear and my eyes stitched up.

“Congratulations to Terri on becoming a two-weight world champion.

“I’ll heal up and I’ll be back. Thank you to everyone for the support.”
