Luncarty's Danny Dobie expected derby wonder strike to end up in Stanley not the back of the net

Danny Dobie netted a screamer to help send Luncarty on their way to derby glory against Kinnoull.

But the experienced defender admits he was expecting his left-footed thunderbolt to end up in Stanley.

It was quite the opposite and the ball smashed off the Brownlands Park post and nestled high in the net.

Dobie was soon mobbed by delighted – and surprised – team-mates in jubilant celebrations but reckons manager Robbie Holden won’t be expecting any more goal heroics for the next few months.

“I just hung out at the back waiting on any scraps and the ball broke perfectly for me to run on to,” Dobie explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I was expecting it to land in Stanley, but luckily I don’t think I could have caught it any sweeter.

“The boys were loving it, especially when it comes in a derby. A few of my mates play for Kinnoull, making it that little bit sweeter. The video has been kicking about.

“I think Robbie knows that you only get a strike like that from me every five years or so.”

The Bleachers ran out 4-0 winners in the Perthshire derby with the other goals coming from Ben Scarborough (2) and Rhys Davies.

“It was a great performance from the lads,” Dobie continued.

“We blew them away in the first half, came out and got the fourth in the second half and saw the game out comfortably.

“We’ve had a great start to the season in the league and have a cup semi-final to look forward to next month.

“The aim is keeping ourselves up the top end of the table and taking it game by game. That is all we are thinking about this early in the season.”

The Bleachers have pieced together a squad mixed with youth and experience this season and Dobie falls into the latter category.
