Luke Shaw reveals what Erik ten Hag has asked him to do after signing new Manchester United deal

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has admitted that manager Erik ten Hag has called on him to add more leadership to the squad after putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The left-back, who was brutally honest in his post-match assessment of United's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, has signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford, keeping him at the club until June 2027. He joined the Reds nine years ago and is just one appearance shy of his 250th for the club.

He has established himself as a key fixture in Ten Hag's plans this season, racking up 36 appearances in all competitions. He played a key role in helping the club end their six-year wait for a trophy and will be looking to help them add more silverware to their collection between now and the end of the campaign.

"I think because I've been in that situation, I fully understand that role and how they're feeling. I feel like I can try to give my experience of how I felt at that time, and how I dealt with it, to the younger lads that come in.

"I think that's something the manager's putting on me at the moment, to bring more leadership into the team
