Luke Shaw in race to be fit for Euro 2024 as Gareth Southgate makes injury revelation on Man Utd star

England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted that Manchester United's Luke Shaw might not be ready for Euro 2024. Shaw, who scored in the Euros final three years ago, is struggling with a muscle injury.

United have said that Shaw will be out for a long time after he limped off against Luton Town last month. Erik ten Hag updated that he thought Shaw won't play again until May, which has cast doubt on whether he will be fit for the Euros.

When asked if Shaw's chances for the summer are uncertain, Southgate told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Well, we'd have to say yes is the answer to that because the timelines would suggest he will only be available in the dying embers of the season.

"You don't know what version of the player you're going to get."

Southgate also talked about how tough it is to play in a big tournament like the Euros, and the physicality needed. He said: "Clearly going into a seven-game tournament... one of the great things we've been able to learn in two of the three tournaments we've played in, we've played all seven matches and the physical demands that that brings are notable.

"We might have everybody that's currently injured back and available but how fit and how match fit and how robust to get through a tournament, we're going to have to work that out as well in the next few months."

If Shaw misses out, it would be a big loss for England, who don't have many left-backs to choose from. Fikayo Tomori, Levi Colwill, Rico Lewis and Kieran Trippier have filled in there during the autumn internationals, but Trippier has missed out on this
