Luke Robinson revelled in the delight of St Johnstone's last-gasp winner against St Mirren

Passionate Luke Robinson revelled in the joys of a last-minute winner against St Mirren.

The defender was running wild when Chris Kane netted in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night.

Robinson, on loan from Wigan, admits his heart was in his mouth watching the 94th minute drama unfold.

“Those are the moments you dream of,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“There is nothing better than a last-minute winner – and a clean sheet to go with it.

“My heart was in my mouth. Kano missed the penalty. Then he slipped. Then the keeper almost saved the rebound but the ball still went in. I was like, ‘What is going on here?’

“I was next to Liam Gordon so I ran to him, then to Graham Carey and then into the corner to jump in with everyone.

“I gave Kano a hug because he deserved it. He works so hard every day and got his reward.”

Kane has missed a considerable amount of football across the past couple of years due to injury.

“I know what it is like to be out injured for a long time,” Robinson said. “He has done that more than anyone.

“He was out for so long and has been so unlucky. But he has worked so hard to get back time and time again. Nobody deserves that moment more than him.”

Robinson, of course, was beaming with delight at the clean sheet performance.

“I thought the defence was brilliant,” he said. “Not just the back three or five – the whole team.

“Everyone was top class. We had a game-plan and we knew we could get the ball down.

“We got chances, so did they but that is always going to happen. We showed so much character.

“That result had been coming. We put in a couple of good performances against Hearts and Celtic. We should’ve got more. So that result on Wednesday night does not surprise me.”
