Showman Luke Littler reckons a star walking off stage could help weed whistling out of darts.
The controversial behaviour of fans putting off players with peeps in Glasgow last week sparked an angry response from players and pundits. Littler’s Final victory over Luke Humphries was dogged by the moronic sounds and individuals such as Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross also suffered at the Hydro.
PDC chiefs launched a stinging statement following the incidents in Scotland which backed-up previous issues from World Series events in Bahrain and Holland. Littler spoke in-depth following the Hydro suggesting that the best way for the elite stars to eradicate it was just to ignore it. But, with another raucous crowd set for Thursday's action in Dublin, the matter was again raised with the World Champion prior to his clash with Price in the Irish Capital.
Littler was asked if could reach a stage where a player may feel the need to walk off stage or halt a game if the recent spate of whistling gets any worse . Initially, he replied: “Well, for us players, probably not. Obviously, we wouldn’t want it to happen to anyone. But if that was the worst case, I don’t know, has he got the rights to walk off stage? Maybe. Or maybe not.”
It was then put to Littler that players had in the past nipped off during matches for things such as emergency toilet breaks. At that point, he then added: “Yeah, well, if a player does walk off stage, then I’m sure the security have got to do their job and obviously kick whoever’s whistling or what they are doing, just kick them out. And then I’m sure us players, we can get on with it.”
