Luke Littler darts fans discover ‘groundbreaking’ new way to play online from home

Darts might be traditionally thought of as a pub game, but advances in modern technology mean arrows enthusiasts are now challenging each other at the oche from the comfort of their own homes. Online darts has been booming in popularity, with many darts fans using apps to battle it out with their rivals.

Among the most popular apps out there is DartCounter, which allows users to play against ‘Dartbot’ (a robot with adjustable difficulty settings), a friend at home and also anyone anywhere else in the world via the internet. But there’s a common complaint when playing online.

Many users have poor-quality cameras, meaning it can be very difficult to make sure your opponent isn’t cheating, not to mention the camera is often only pointed at the board, so there’s no way of knowing your rival is standing the correct distance away. But darts giants Target, which boasts players including teenage sensation Luke Littler, Rob Cross, Nathan Aspinall and 16x World Champion, Phil 'The Power' Taylor among those using its products, has developed what it says is a “groundbreaking” new product that’s set to revolutionise playing darts from home - the Virt Camera.

Until now, players have used their phone or webcam to show their dartboard on the DartCounter app, so their opponents can see where their darts land. But with the Virt, for the first time ever, players will be able to stream both their dartboard and the thrower at the same time – meaning they can share their best shots as well as their celebrations (or commiserations).
