Luis Diaz will walk a disciplinary tightrope this evening that could hasten his arrival at Liverpool.

The Reds have made an offer of almost £50million for the Porto winger as they look to gazump Tottenham Hotspur for a player they were in any case planning to move for this summer.

Liverpool face a race against time to complete the deal before the deadline of 11pm on Monday night.

Diaz is currently on international duty with Colombia in their latest round of World Cup qualifiers, with Los Cafeteros taking on Peru in Barranquilla this evening.

Liverpool have sent a delegation to Argentina, where Colombia play their next match on Tuesday, to arrange a medical which they intend will take place in the days before the match.

But Dias would be ruled out of that game if he picks up a booking against Peru, having been cautioned earlier in the World Cup qualifying campaign in Uruguay.

Such an absence would therefore make it more straightforward for Liverpool to complete the medical and conclude the formalities of the proposed deal.
