Luis Diaz's Liverpool wages make sudden transfer deal even more impressive

Incoming Liverpool star Luis Diaz is set to earn just £56,000-a-week at Anfield.

The Reds are close to completing an initial £37.5million deal with Porto for the 25-year-old Columbian.

The proposed transfer includes £12.5m in add-ons and is expected to be completed before the transfer deadline on Monday evening.

Diaz has established himself as one of the finest forwards in Europe, scoring 14 goals in 18 league games this season to give Porto a great chance of winning the Portuguese title.

The 31-cap ace has also excelled on the international stage, helping Columbia reach the semi-finals of the Copa America last summer.

Many expect Diaz to receive a similar pay packet to Diogo Jota (£90,385-a-week) and Takumi Minamino (£75,000-a-week).

According to reports from Portuguese outlet SIC, however, that will not be the case.

Diaz is said to have agreed a €3.5m annual salary at Liverpool, which works out at just shy of £56,000-a-week.

Konstantinos Tsimikas (£60,000-a-week), Adrian (£58,000-a-week), Nat Phillips (£64,615-a-week) and Divock Origi (£60,000-a-week) all earn more.

Liverpool's highest earner is Virgil van Dijk, who takes home £220,000 every seven days. Mohamed Salah, who is currently negotiating a new deal, is on £200,000-a-week.

Julian Ward, who is set to replace Michael Edwards as the club's sporting director at the end of the season, is believed to have brokered the Diaz dea l with Porto.

News of Ward's successful negotiation will please Liverpool fans, who were anxious about Edwards' impending departure after years of service.

The administrator has been in charge of the club's transfer business since August 2015, overseeing the signings of Van Dijk, Salah, Alisson and many more superstars.
