Luis Diaz's game-changing highlights from Villarreal 2-3 Liverpool

Liverpool were in real trouble in their Champions League semi-final second leg tie against Villarreal.

After winning 2-0 in the first-leg, it looked as if Liverpool would secure their passage to the final with ease.

But that was not the case.

Just three minutes were on the clock when Villarreal opened the scoring in the second leg, with Boulaye Dia giving Villarreal hope.

The plucky Spanish side then made it 2-0 on the night through Francis Coquelin, levelling the scores on aggregate were level.

Jurgen Klopp’s side needed a spark. After being outclassed in the first-half, the German knew he needed to make a change.

So, he replaced Diogo Jota with January signing Luis Diaz.

That proved to be an inspired decision. The Colombian was absolutely sensational in the second half as Liverpool turned the tie on its head.

Liverpool were far superior in the second half in Spain, with Diaz the driving force.

Fabinho restored the Reds’ lead on aggregate in the 62nd minute, before Diaz got on the scoresheet himself.

Trent Alexander-Arnold swung in a delicious ball and Diaz made no mistake with his header.

Sadio Mane then profited from a moment of madness from Villarreal goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli to round out the scoring.

Diaz was given the Man-of-the-Match award after transforming the game. His highlights have now been compiled by Twitter user @LFCComps and they are a joy to watch. View them below…

Diaz really is a special player.

The club’s decision to sign him in a £37.5 million deal in January is proving to be a masterstroke.

At 25 years old, he’s already a ridiculous player and he’s only going to get better and better.
