'Lowest part of my career' - Phil Foden opens up on difficult Man City spell

Manchester City star Phil Foden has admitted that struggling with injuries and being out of the team has been the lowest part of his career to date.

Since the World Cup in Qatar, Foden has struggled for minutes. Against Manchester United in January, the 22-year-old picked up a foot injury which kept him out of the starting line-up until the draw at Nottingham Forest.

At the weekend, Foden made his first start since injury against AFC Bournemouth and scored. This performance earned him another start against Bristol City in the FA Cup and he did not disappoint.

Scoring in either half, Foden was awarded the man of the match award for his performance. Speaking to ITV Sport post-match, the winger reflected honestly on what he described as a low ebb of his career.

"I am feeling much better in my feet," he explained. "You know it is not easy sometimes when you play with discomfort in your feet.

"I feel 100 per cent fit now and comfortable so hopefully I can come back into the team and help them as much as possible. It has definitely [been frustrating], it has been one of the lowest parts of my career but everyone goes through them, it's how you react."

When asked to expand on that response, Foden added: "Just the discomfort in my feet and not playing as much. I love to play football and when I don't I am a bit frustrated so, yeah, that is how it is."

Kevin De Bruyne added City's third goal with less than ten minutes to go to add gloss to the scoreline. The Blues have now progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup alongside Brighton and Hove Albion, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham.
