Love Island fans discover a second islander with a famous sports star parent

Eagle-eyed Love Island viewers have uncovered the truth about a singleton on the show who has a sporty family background.

While Gemma Owen made caught the attention of Love Island fans for being former England striker Michael Owen's daughter, she is not the only Islander with a famous sportsperson as a parent. Liam Llewellyn, who briefly coupled up with Gemma this week, is none other than the son of former Rugby League player, David Llewellyn.

David, better known as Dai, played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale, Newport, and Neath and was part of the Wales squad for the 1999 World Cup where he scored a try against Japan, Wales Online reported.

Since retiring in 2003, the former scrum-half has turned to a career as a personal trainer and sports therapist. Son Liam took after his dad by moving into the fitness profession as a personal trainer. At 22, he is one of the youngest in this year's Love Island villa, with the new series having kicked off on Monday (June 6).

Talking about his decision to enter the villa, he said: "I think 22 is a really nice age to meet someone, you’ve got your years ahead of you so you have time to experience stuff and grow together."

He continued: "I think Love Island is a great opportunity to meet someone. You’re in with a load of different types, so you can get to grips with what you really like about people."

Since Liam's involvement in Love Island, dad Dai has said on Instagram: "My boy. So proud of you son. Love you. Go nail it."
