Lord's to review ticket prices following heavy backlash
MCC will review its ticket prices for Lord’s Test matches next year after criticism over the cost of seats in the lead up to the New Zealand Test this week.
Ticket prices are set in June or July of the preceding year so meetings will take place in the near future to fix prices for next summer’s two Tests at Lord’s, one of which will be an Ashes match.
The club has also released an extra 2,000 tickets for Under-16s priced at £20 for day four of this match.
Telegraph Sport revealed this week that almost 20,000 seats were unsold for the first four days of the opening match of the summer, but now the majority of tickets have been bought for the first three days.
“We are taking a sharp focus on ticket prices in light of the cost of living crisis and we want to attract more families to Lord’s. It is very important for us,” an MCC spokesman told Telegraph Sport.
The club has been accused of cashing in and charging too high prices for tickets this week, especially in the light of the cost of living crisis. Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes have both suggested this week ticket prices will have to be reviewed if fans stay away.
Michael Vaughan, writing for Telegraph Sport, this week suggested Lord’s should lose its lucrative two Tests per summer allocation if prices were not lowered. “If Lord’s is going to continue to charge these astronomical prices then they should be under threat from other grounds who will not charge as much," he said.
