Long-serving Clare secretary Pat Fitzgerald to step down
Clare GAA secretary Pat Fitzgerald has announced that he will resign from his position the day after the All-Ireland hurling final on 18 July.
A native of Sixmilebridge, he took over the position of primary administrator 32 years ago, during which time Clare had numerous successes.
Those include the 1992 Munster football championship, the 1995 and 1997 All-Ireland hurling titles, and the 2013 Liam MacCarthy victory, for which his son, Davy Fitzgerald, was manager.
On the pitch, Clare are preparing for this year's All-Ireland hurling semi-final and football quarter-final. The county's footballers face Derry at Croke Park on Saturday with the hurlers taking on Kilkenny seven days later.
