London Euston chaos LIVE updates as Manchester trains stopped and lines blocked

Travellers heading between Manchester and London are facing major disruption. All lines at London Euston have been blocked this lunchtime (April 2).

National Rail is warning that services are likely to be disrupted until 2pm at least. It means all Avanti West Coast services heading between Greater Manchester and the capital are affected.

That includes services running from Manchester Piccadilly, Stockport and Wigan North Western. Services running from Warrington Bank Quay, Wilmslow and Macclesfield in Cheshire are also affected.

A National Rail spokesperson said: "A fault with the signalling system at London Euston means some lines to / from this station are blocked. Trains will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

"Major disruption is expected until 14:00." National Rail says Avanti West Coast tickets are now being accepted on some TransPennine Express, LNER and Chiltern Railways services so passengers can find alternative routes between London and Greater Manchester.

Avanti West Coast is apologising to passengers on social media.

It says it only has access to a small number of platforms at London Euston due to the ongoing issues, with this causing delays.

Hi James. I do apologise for the disruption to your journey today. Unfortunately, due to a signalling fault at London Euston, we only have access to a small number of platforms. This is causing us to have to reduce our train services this afternoon to avoid congestion. - Kim

National Rail now says disruption is expected until 3pm at the earliest.

@AvantiWestCoast Hi I am on the delayed 12.10
