LOI transfers: Dundalk sign Robbie Mahon from Motherwell

Dundalk have announced the signing of winger Robbie Mahon from Motherwell.

The 21-year-old Dubliner is the Lilywhites' third arrival of the winter transfer window after the earlier signings of Dutch midfielder Koen Oosterbrink and ex-UCD player Dara Keane.

Mahon came through the Bohemians youth ranks before joining Motherwell in 2022.

While he made just one first-team league appearance for the Scottish Premiership side last season, he has scored seven goals in 16 matches on loan at third tier side Edinburgh City in the first half of this campaign.

He was also part of the Dunfermline squad that won the 2022-23 Scottish League One title after an earlier loan move in the second part of last season.

"I'm delighted that it’s done and I’m able to get in and meet up with the lads," Mahon told dundalkfc.com of his decision to pitch up at Oriel Park.

"After a couple of years in Scotland, it was a big decision to come home to Ireland but after speaking to the gaffer, he really sold Dundalk to me and I can’t wait to get going."

Dundalk head coach Stephen O'Donnell added that Mahon's speed was an asset that he hoped would prove useful as they look to improve on last season's fifth place finish in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division.

"Robbie will bring lots of pace, he can carry the ball well, he has a good left foot and he will be a real threat on transitions," he said.

"He is still only 20 but he has shown that he can play and score goals in men’s football. We spoke to people in Scotland and his attitude and workrate is exceptional and he'll bring a lot to the team and the dressing room."
