LOI preview: Crunch Brandywell derby leads LOI action tonight

While Shamrock Rovers are recovering from their Europa Conference League game, a number of key issues will be impacted across four games in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Derry City had some of the wind taken from their sails after cutting the gap on the leaders when the Hoops recorded a dominant 3-1 win in Sligo last Saturday.

They'll once again attempt to move closer when a Finn Harps side battling for survival visit the Ryan McBride Brandywell for one of the most important north-west derbies in recent memory.

UCD will see tonight as a major opportunity to move off the bottom again having slipped behind Harps last week. Sligo Rovers visit the UCD Bowl with their European hopes all but over after an inconsistent season.

The race for Europe is very much on the agenda when Stephen O'Donnell welcomes his former side St Patrick's Athletic to Oriel Park. After a very patchy spell which saw them exit the FAI Cup, the Lilywhites got back on track last week with a home win.

They lead Pat's by four points, knowing third place guarantees Europa Conference League football next season. A win for the Lilywhites would put them in an extremely strong position with just four matches to play.

Fourth place usually does lead to a spot in Europe, but the Saints would be reliant on Derry winning the FAI Cup if they don't make the top three.

Bohemians take on Drogheda United in the the final game of the night. The Gypsies are coming close to the end of their search for a new manager and a win there could at least give them an outside chance of catching Pat's in fourth.

Elsewhere Cork City could be promoted back to the top flight after two seasons away if they can overcome Wexford in what will be the best-attended game on the island.
