Lockerbie's Gordie Mutch experiences mixed fortunes at Snetterton

Gordie Mutch had mixed fortunes at the weekend at Snetterton.

The Lockerbie driver and his Fanatec team-mate Jimmy Broadbent should have been celebrating a double race win in the south east of England.

However, the duo were disqualified due to a turbo issue which scuppered their efforts in Friday’s qualifying and Saturday’s race one.

The 87 car was overboosting during qualifying and they were sent to start race one in the pitlane. When they won that race from the pits, scrutineering disqualified them.

However, after fixing the issue overnight the duo were on pole in race two and won it on Sunday.

Gordie said: “On Friday we noticed an issue with a pipe which consistently was popping off.

“The issue recurred in qualifying and we stuck the car on pole. But the turbo was peaking in pressure and was too high so we were disqualified. The pipe came off in qualifying. When the team looked at it they thought that was it, put the pipe back on and thought that was it fixed.

“But when it came down to the race it started doing it again. Instead of that being the main issue it was actually a symptom of a problem with the wastegate in the turbo.

“It wasn’t the best. We lost qualifying and race one. So when it came to Sunday they resolved the issue, albeit a day too late, we poled again and won the race by 37 seconds.

“I think that was us stamping our feet down on all of the nonsense that came with the weekend.

“I’m frustrated with the weekend. As a driver pairing we nailed it at the weekend. We did everything – in every session we were inch perfect.

“These issues were outwith our control.

“We should’ve been leaving this round with a nice margin in the lead. We’ve lost a bit of ground in the championship but the fight is still on.”
