Loch Ken Wild Swim Weekend returns in September 2022

The Loch Ken Wild Swim Weekend will return next month.

Run by Galloway Activity Centre and into its ninth year, the swim will raise money for Westsound Cash for Kids.

Over the weekend of September 9 to 11, up to 120 wild swimmers will venture into the water to take part in a 1km, 2km and 4km swim.

There is something for the youngsters too, with a timed kids splash session including parts of the activity centre’s famous wobbly waterpark.

As part of the weekend’s festivities a group of swimmers will also brave the waters after dark on Friday night for the infamous Loch Ken Night Swim. Introduced in 2017, the night swim is now a popular part of the annual event.

The sight of a wave of swimmers slipping out into the dark, gently illuminated by their tow floats is always something to behold! .

The weekend will finish off on the Sunday, with Loch Ken’s second ever 10km end to end swim.

After the success of the inaugural Loch Ken 10k in 2021, everyone is looking forward to seeing the swimmers take on this longer event.

It’s a real endurance challenge which will see a smaller number of experienced open water swimmers race through some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.

With the risks of swimming indoors during the pandemic, many have discovered the invigorating joys of wild swimming.

Loch Ken is one of the cleanest lochs in Scotland and home to regular swimming groups where many found their love of this fast growing sport.

As with all outdoor activities, wild swimming carries risks. An organised event is a great way to start with safety cover by the experienced team at the Galloway Activity Centre and a high ratio of kayakers to swimmers so someone is always on hand to help out anyone struggling.
