Livingston climb into top six with first home win of the season

Livingston picked up their first home win of the season - and moved into the top six thanks to a 2-0 victory over Motherwell.

An uninspiring clash swung dramatically in Livi's favour in first half injury-time when Motherwell's Lennon Miller saw red for bringing down Dan MacKay as the winger raced through on goal.

David Martindale's men made sure to take full advantage after the break with Bruce Anderson opening the scoring from close range after MacKay got beyond Brodie Spencer.

And the lead was doubled just after the hour mark from the penalty spot with Sean Kelly beating younger brother Liam after James Penrice was brought down.

Livi started brightly and went close on a couple of occasions in the early stages. Ayo Obileye headed wide from a Sean Kelly corner inside the opening three minutes while Stephen Kelly's attempt at turning a MacKay ball home was blocked by the 'Well defence.

The contest was matching the weather as both teams struggled to get a foothold in the difficult conditions as the heavy rain and winds made it a war of attrition at times.

The visitors went close to a spectacular opener on the half hour mark when Dan Casey spotted Shamal George off his line and almost caught him out with a free-kick barely in the Livi half. The stopper did well to scramble back and tip the ball over the bar.

A dull affair burst into life before the break as Motherwell were reduced to 10 men. A quick Livi counter-attack saw Anderson thread a pass to MacKay with the wing-back looking to charge through on goal, only to be clipped by Miller with Don Robertson having no hesitation in producing the red card.
