Livingston boss David Martindale concedes 'it's not working' following frustrating defeat to Ross County

Livingston boss David Martindale concedes he needs to make changes after seeing a dominant Lions performance ultimately result in a 1-0 defeat at home to Ross County.

The hosts peppered the Staggies box all afternoon, firing in 22 shots on goal, but came away empty-handed as careless finishing was added to by a defensive error from Sean Kelly on 76 minutes that allowed Owura Edwards to bundle home the game's only goal.

The centre-back's misplaced header allowed Jordy Hiwula through on goal with the substitute seeing his effort clatter back off the woodwork before falling kindly into the path of Edwards.

It was yet another frustrating afternoon for the Livi boss who saw his side miss a penalty and concede a last minute goal in defeat to 10-men St Mirren.

The lack of a cutting edge in both those displays has convinced him that some tinkering is needing done if the Lions are to get back to winning ways.

He said: "I know why we didn’t take anything from it. One moment of schoolboy defending.

“First contact we don’t do enough with it, then we’re not on the second contact. That’s why we lose the game. When you have so much of the ball it can sometimes be a problem and you switch off.

“We dominated large spells of the game. Shots, corners, everything. But if you don’t defend properly you’re not going to win. It’s not good enough."

"Possession is a nice stat but it doesn’t win you games of football if you don’t defend your box properly and don’t take your chances at the other end. It’s not a great combination for picking points up and that’s where we’ve found ourselves in the last two games."
