Liverpool ‘willing to pay’ FC Barcelona teenager €9m-a-year – player has €50m release clause

According to reports, Liverpool are ‘willing’ to offer FC Barcelona youngster Gavi €9m-a-year.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut for the Spanish giants at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

The midfielder went onto play 47 times for Barcelona across all competitions. This included 28 starts in La Liga.

Gavi also made his senior debut for Spain towards the end of last year. He has been capped eight times since October.

The youngster scored his first international goal earlier this week as Spain drew 2-2 against the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League.

His current contract is due to expire in 2023 and this includes a €50m release clause.

Barcelona are desperate to keep him beyond the end of the 2023/24 season. Last month it was claimed that Liverpool are a ‘big threat’ to the La Liga outfit.

Spanish outlet La Porteria are now reporting that ‘Gavi has at least two Premier League offers’ and one is from Liverpool.

The Reds are understood to be ‘willing to pay’ his release clause. They would also offer him a ‘star salary’ of around €9m-a-year.

This deal is unlikely though as ‘Gavi and his entourage are very clear’ that they want to stay and ‘succeed at the Nou Camp’.

Elsewhere, Mo Salah was crowned PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the second time on Thursday after winning the award in 2017/18, his first season with Liverpool.
