Liverpool tipped to target Youri Tielemans

Journalist Tom Collomosse thinks Liverpool and Manchester City would both be interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans if he becomes available in the summer.

The 24-year-old will be into the final year of his contract by then, meaning he very well could be on the market.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Tielemans is unwilling to extend his expiring contract amid interest from “many top clubs”.

The Belgian has been a revelation at the King Power since joining on an initial loan spell from AS Monaco back in 2019.

Tielemans, who eventually went on to join Leicester permanently in a club record £40m deal, scored the winner in the Foxes’ 1-0 victory against Chelsea in the FA Cup final last year to make them winners of the competition for the first time in their history.

There will be no repeat this year, however, following the holders’ shock 4-1 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest in the fourth round, with Tielemans being substituted in that game.

It is Leicester’s lacklustre season as a whole, though, with Brendan Rodgers’ men nowhere near the top four, that is likely to be putting Tielemans off signing a new contract at the King Power. And if that does not change, Collomosse thinks the £49.5m-rated Belgium international could quickly find himself being targeted by the likes of Liverpool and City.
