Liverpool target 'underrated' Aston Villa midfielder as Jurgen Klopp eyes Fabinho replacement

Liverpool are interested in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as the long-term successor to Fabinho, reports The Express.

But the Reds are said to not be alone in their pursuit to sign the Brazilian, with Arsenal previously showing an interest.

Luiz will enter the final year of his current deal at Villa Park this summer and is yet to commit to a contract extension.

"Douglas is a fantastic player, really talented and we rate him extremely high," Steven Gerrard previously said of the Brazilian.

"We want to keep all of our best players around. We understand there will be interest in our best players as well, we don’t have a problem with that."

Ian Wright was also full of praise for the midfielder, adding : "Someone like Douglas Luiz, he is ready to be one of the best midfield players in the Premier League. He is so underrated."
