Liverpool star Thiago in tears after suffering injury in warm-up to face Chelsea

Liverpool midfielder Thiago was left in tears on the touchline as he was forced to miss the Carabao Cup final after suffering an injury in the warm-up.

Thiago had been named in the starting XI to face Chelsea at Wembley but Jurgen Klopp was forced into a late change.

Naby Keita has now come into the side to face Chelsea while Harvey Elliott has been promoted to the bench.

As the two teams got underway, cameras cut to the 30-year-old in the dugout as he was consoled by team-mate Alisson.

It’s not known as of yet exactly what injury he picked up or how serious it could be.

‘Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out after sustaining an knock during the warm-up. Naby Keita replaces him,’ Liverpool confirmed ahead of kick-off.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher highlighted the significance of Thiago’s absence, insisting it was a huge blow to his former side’s chances.

‘With Thiago out, this is a 50-50 game,’ he said.

Klopp could now look to take advantage of the five substitutes rule being in place for the EFL Cup and has plenty of attacking options at his disposal.

Liverpool XI : Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Keita; Salah, Mane, Diaz.

Subs: Alisson, Konate, Milner, Elliott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Jota, Tsimikas, Origi.
