Liverpool reconsider Nat Phillips transfer decision as impressive loan period changes future plans

Liverpool are reportedly reconsidering the future of Nat Phillips, as his impressive loan period last season may have bought him more time at Anfield.

Phillips was utilised for a good deal of the 2020/21 season at Liverpool, thanks to injuries in the defence. The centre-back had a good season, playing 17 times in the league, as the Reds finished third.

Liverpool kept seven clean sheets in the 17 league games Phillips featured in. The 25-year-old also played 180 minutes across two legs of a Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

As Liverpool’s injury troubles eased last season, Phillips was sent out on loan to Bournemouth. He moved there in January, and only missed one league game that he was available for, completing 90 minutes in every other match.

Phillips was part of a very good Cherries team, who gained promotion, finishing in second place. Previous reports stated that Liverpool were willing to listen to offers for Phillips.

However, a fresh update states that is not the case. The Mirror reports that Liverpool have been impressed by Phillips’ loan spell, and are rethinking their decision to let him go.

They are also apparently considering whether or not to loan Phillips back out to Bournemouth.

Of course, another spell at the Cherries would allow him to get consistent minutes.

What’s more, those would be in the Premier League, and Liverpool could see if Phillips has what it takes to perform in the top flight again.

Allowing him to go out on loan rather than selling him seems the best course of action. After a couple of good seasons, Phillips has proven he is a good player, and another go in the Premier League could show he is ready for another go at Anfield.
