Liverpool must take three major chances of revenge this season

Liverpool are just 180 minutes away from their tenth European Cup final after reaching the Champions League semi-finals, courtesy of a 6-4 aggregate win over Benfica in midweek.

With Villarreal now standing in the way of Jurgen Klopp leading his side to the continent’s showpiece for a third time in five years, a seventh European title is firmly in Red sights as they chase an unprecedented quadruple.

Kopites weren’t kidding when decreeing their side has conquered all of Europe and are never going to stop. Only, despite being crowned champions of England, Europe and the world under the German, they have been stopped in the past. And it is the foes who have stopped them who stand in Liverpool’s way now.

Firstly Villarreal. On paper, the Reds will be confident of seeing off the La Liga outfit. Currently seventh in Spain, the Yellow Submarine are only in this year’s Champions League courtesy of beating Manchester United in the Europa League final after all.

However, they have already knocked out Juventus and Bayern Munich to reach this stage of the competition and are led by early Klopp nemesis, Unai Emery. The Spaniard just loves European competition, having won the Europa League four times with Sevilla and Villarreal, as well as losing in the final with Arsenal.

And his third win with Sevilla came at the expense of Klopp’s Liverpool in the German’s first season at the club, inflicting a first European failure on the German at Anfield. Daniel Sturridge had opened the scoring for the Reds, only for a second-half collapse see them fall to a 3-1 defeat after goals from Kevin Gameiro and a Coke brace.
