Liverpool: Mo Salah & Trent were 'completely lost' before kick-off vs Palace

Liverpool‘s start to the 2022/23 season has been far from great.

The team who pushed Manchester City all the way in the battle for the title last time out are already four points behind Pep Guardiola’s men.

Liverpool’s first two matches of the new Premier League season have seen them draw with newly-promoted Fulham and, most recently, Crystal Palace.

The stalemate versus the latter on Monday evening was certainly an eventful affair, with £85 million summer signing Darwin Nunez shown a straight red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Liverpool actually equalised after the striker was dismissed from the field of play through Luis Diaz and they probably deserved to win the match, as they were the better side even with 10 men.

But it just wasn’t to be for the Reds, who don’t look like the all-conquering outfit we saw in 2021/22 just yet.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped in that regard. Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara were all unavailable for selection on Monday.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool’s slow start to the season has been mocked on social media by rival fans.

Nunez’s red card incident has predictably been given the meme treatment, as will footage of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold looking ‘completely lost’ before kick-off versus Palace.

As the two teams were lining up for the television cameras at Anfield, the Liverpool pair failed to realise when the rest of their teammates walked off to shake the hands of the Palace players and officials.

Instead, they just stood there, soaking up the atmosphere at the start of their first outing on home soil in 2022/23, until Salah finally clocked on…
