Liverpool may profit from Adama Traore ‘betrayal’ as Jorge Mendes holds transfer summit

A transfer summit was reportedly held between Gestifute and Barcelona on Thursday evening to thrash out Adama Traore’s future.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Traore has spent the second half of the season on loan at the Camp Nou, and Barcelona hold an option to make the deal permanent for £25million. Traore has only played 63 minutes across Barcelona’s last eight La Liga games though, making a permanent return to his boyhood club unlikely.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has suggested Barcelona aren’t in a strong enough financial position to trigger their option on Traore. Laporta has also admitted a swap deal involving Francisco Trincao could appeal to Barcelona.

Laporta, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany met with Gestifute officials at a restaurant in Catalonia on Thursday to discuss Traore and Trincao. Mundo Deportivo claims Jorge Mendes attended the meeting, along with Hugo Valdir and two other Gestifute employees.

Mendes sought confirmation from Barcelona over their plans for Traore and Trincao heading into the summer window and details of this week’s meeting will be relayed to Wolves. Catalan newspaper El Nacional reports that Traore has ‘no future’ at Barcelona under Xavi and the club plans to 'betray' him after outlining their plans to sign him in January.

The same report claims Liverpool could reignite their interest in the summer with Jurgen Klopp following Traore’s progress at Barcelona. Klopp is a known admirer of Traore and once called the Spaniard ‘unplayable’.

The Liverpool boss said: "[Traore] is unplayable in moments, it’s unbelievable. What a player – it’s not only him but he’s so good."
